Farmers Protest Against Animal Welfare Law in Poland
Farmers protest in central Warsaw, Poland on October 28, 2020. Several main roundabouts and access to city roads in Warsaw have been blocked by farmers protesting an amendment to the law on animal protection which they say will put them out of business. The law will ban fur farms and ritual slaughter for export. Farmers have been a large part of the the current government's voter base seemingly identifying with it's traditional values. The protests come at a difficult time for the ruling Law and Justice party which has been criticised by opposition parties for it's handling of the coronavirus epidemic and mass protests against further restrictions on already strict abortion laws.
