An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of X (Extreme) took place on November 23, 1980 in Southern Italy. Also know as 1980 Irpinia earthquake, the quake was centered on the village of Conza and left 2,483 people dead, at least 7,700 injured, and 250,000 homeless. Many cities were rebuild since the earthquake, most of them remains deserted.
