GELDINGADALUR, ICELAND

Aerial view of new volcano craters in Geldingadalir and Meradalir

New volcanic craters started erupting on the 5th of April in Geldingadalur and Meradalir, Reykjanes, Iceland. The new craters are located 500 meters away from the volcanic craters that erupted on the 20th of March. The new volcanic craters flow down into another valley named Meradalir, creating a lava river down a canyon. An Iceland videographer captured a rare view of the volcanic eruption in Reykjanes peninsula, Iceland. A long dormant volcano on Reykjanes Peninsula, the Fagradalsfjall volcano has erupted in Iceland, in the first eruption of its kind in more than 800 years. The Fagradals Mountain volcano had been dormant for 6,000 years.
