Thousands take to the streets in Poland to protest new media law

The Polish parliament this week voted through what is commonly called the "Lex TVN", a new media law forbidding foreign ownership of media entities. The law is mainly aimed at American owned TVN, one of the last government critical broadcasters in Poland. Demonstrations took place in over a hundred towns and cities on 20 December, 2021 and in Warsaw a rally in front of the Presidential Palace was attended by thousands of people. MP and former Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk spoke at the rally saying thousands had "gathered in defence of free media". Polish President Andrzej Duda is set to sign the bill next week.
