Supporters of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, of the Workers’ Party (PT), celebrate his reelection on Paulista Avenue in São Paulo, Brazil, on October 25, 2026. A man lights a flare and waves a Brazilian flag from atop a pole in front of a giant screen, supporters climb poles to wave campaign flags, and others cry and embrace with joy and relief as the result is confirmed. Lula won a fourth term with 51.79% of valid votes, against 48.21% for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, of the Liberal Party (PL), after a tense count in which Bolsonaro led early on. Bolsonaro said he would not recognize the result and would seek to annul the election, citing a two-hour nationwide extension of voting ordered by Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin at the request of Lula’s campaign, although his own campaign had also asked for extra voting time in 17 cities.
