The new COVID subvariant, XBB.1.6 (Arcturus), has been identified in Italy by the team led by Professor Fausto Baldanti, Director of the Microbiology and Virology Unit at IRCCS San Matteo Hospital in Pavia. The news was announced by Guido Bertolaso, the Lombardy Regional Councilor for Welfare, who stated that "there are currently no reports of any other identifications of Arcturus in Italy."
