Pope Francis has been taken to a hospital in Rome for intestinal surgery, the Vatican said in a statement Wednesday. According to the statement, His Holiness will undergo a "laparotomy and abdominal wall surgery under general anesthesia" later in the day. It added the pope is expected to stay at the hospital for a few days "to allow for a normal post-operative course and full functional recovery."
